voodoo is a very different traditional East African religion. I was lucky enough to attend a Yoruba voodoo demonstration (a tribe from Nigeria). These rare ceremonies, which include dances and rituals, are performed to honor and communicate with the spirits of the ancestors, seeking their guidance and protection. The Egungun are considered intermediaries between the living and the dead, and their veneration reinforces social and cultural cohesion within the Yoruba community.
