Ganvie is a lake town located on Lake Nokoué. Known as the “Venice of Africa”, its inhabitants live in houses on stilts and move around in canoes. Founded in the 17th century by the Tofinu people to escape the capture of slaves, it is a remarkable example of human adaptation to a watery environment.
